Spanish Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all of the participants of RISD’s third annual Spanish Spelling Bee. This year the competition was expanded to include even more students!

Alexa R. of Greenwood Hills Elementary won the third-grade competition with Brian V. of RISD Academy finishing second and Eduardo P. from Dover third.

Kyra A., a fourth-grader at Greenwood Hills won first place among fourth and fifth-graders. Yazareth M., a fifth-grader at Mark Twain Elementary was second and Leslie G., a fourth-grader at Lake Highlands Elementary finished third.

Junior high students participated in the bee for this first time, and Jeremias Garcia Valero, of West won with the word mercachifle. Valerie Manrique of Parkhill finished second and Allison Alvarez Gonzalez, an eighth-grader at Lake Highlands Junior High came in third.

The three first-place winners will represent RISD in the Region 10 Spanish Spelling Bee on March 20.
