Congratulations to all of the participants of RISD’s fifth annual Spanish Spelling Bee. The competition took place on Tuesday, January 20. The three Spelling Bees, which were separated by grade band, included students in third-fifth grade and junior high students representing 21 schools.
Maykel M. of Carolyn Bukhair Elementary School won the third-grade competition, with Adalyn J. of Audelia Creek Elementary finishing second and Evans C. from Mark Twain Elementary finishing third. The winning word was “PAÑUELO”.
Allan P., fourth-grader at Stults Road Elementary won first place among fourth and fifth-graders. Farah A., a fourth grader at Richardson ISD Academy was second and Thiago A.,fourth-grader at Wallace Elementary finished third. The winning word was “CASCARRABIAS”.
Junior high students participated in the secondary Spanish spelling bee, and Daniel Solomon Milano, eighth-grader at Lake Highlands Middle School won with the word “ROBOT”. Aaron Rocones Torrealba, eighth-grader at Apollo Junior High finished second and Vicmary Alvarez an eighth-grader at Forest Meadow Middle School came in third.
The first-place winners from the fourth-fifth grade band and the seventh-eight grade band will represent Richardson ISD in the Region 10 Spanish Spelling Bee on March 25
