RISD Seniors Earn National Merit Recognition for 2022

National Merit Scholarship Program

Two Richardson High School seniors, one Berkner senior and one Pearce senior have been named National Merit Semifinalists.

Congratulations to Hannah Agarwal and Lukas Zenick of RHS, Michael May of BHS, and Caroline Mulry of PHS!

They are among 16,000 national semifinalists – representing less than 1% of all seniors across the country – who are competing for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be awarded in the spring.

High school students enter the program by taking the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test that serves as an initial screen of about 1.5 million entrants each year.

National Merit Finalists are selected based on their exceptional abilities, skills and accomplishments, and are highly recruited by selective colleges across the nation with some colleges and universities offering significant scholarships or even full-rides based on National Merit status, according to RHS Counselor Nancy Thompson.

In addition, 32 RISD seniors were recognized as National Merit Commended Students, meaning they demonstrated exceptional academic promise on the qualifying test but will not be continuing on in the competition.

Berkner’s commended students include Lance Davis, Elena Elkazzaz, Sebastian Girton, Nathan Keonine, Nicolas Lawrence and Ryan MacNeil.

Lake Highlands High School’s commended students include Laurel Dorminy, Davis Klemchuk, Ava McClung, Anna Moore, Jackson Reed, Sara Shelton and Charles Silva.

Pearce’s commended students include Zachary Alsup, Kaitlin Gardner, Ravienne Hodgson, Ian Linenberger, Samuel Mandell, Meghan Parada, Zachary Sierra and Ava Slobin.

Richardson High School’s commended students include Lara Barzenji, Julia Bidan, Matthew Cadena, Benjamin Dalton, Ryan Hanks, Thomas Hogan, Ahmed Khan, Braddock Parks, Arissa Rahman, Luke Stout and Raisha Taqiya.

Congratulations to all these members of the RISD Class of 2022! #RISDGreatness
