TSIA

What the assessment is

The TSIA2 is the state-approved college readiness assessment used by Texas public colleges and universities. It determines whether a student is ready to take college-level coursework in Reading & Writing (ELAR) and Mathematics.

The TSIA2 includes two main components:

  • College Readiness Classification (CRC) Test: Determines college readiness.
  • Diagnostic Test (if needed): Identifies specific areas of strength and need.

RISD uses TSIA2 results for:

  • College placement
  • Dual Credit eligibility
  • CCMR accountability
  • Targeted skill development for high school students

Who takes it

Students may take TSIA2 if they:
  • Want to enroll in Dual Credit courses
  • Need college placement scores.
  • Did not meet college readiness through SAT/ACT
  • Want to strengthen college readiness before graduation.
RISD typically tests:
  • 8th–12th graders

When it’s offered

The TSIA2 is available continuously at each campus. This means students can take the test whenever their campus designates. While we do have grade-wide testing windows for 9th or 10th graders, the exact timing is ultimately determined by each campus to accommodate retesters and specific student needs.

Registration process

TSIA2 registration is handled entirely by each campus. Students are registered for testing by their school based on grade-level testing plans, retesting needs, or Dual Credit placement requirements. Parents do not need to complete a separate registration form. The campus will notify families when their student is scheduled to test and provide any preparation steps, including access to the required Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) if applicable.

How results are shared

Students receive immediate, unofficial results on the computer screen as soon as they complete the TSIA2.
Official scores are accessible to the campus testing coordinator and counselors, who review them with the student and use them for placement and academic planning.
Because all RISD students take the TSIA2 on their home campus, scores are not sent through Dallas College.
Parents receive results directly from the campus or through their student, depending on campus procedures. Families may be contacted by counselors, testing coordinators, or classroom teachers when scores impact Dual Credit eligibility or academic placement.

How to access your TSIA 2 scores from the Accuplacer Portal

  1. You can go to the ACCUPLACER student portal. You’ll need to provide your name, date of birth, student ID, and where you took the test. If you don’t remember your student ID, contact the school where you took the test.
  2. Submit your information and click “Send Reports.” We’ll send a link to view and print your test results to the email address you provided when you took your ACCUPLACER test.
  3. Check your email.
If you don’t see an email with your ACCUPLACER score report, check the email address you gave when you took the test. If you still can’t find your score report, contact the school where you took the test.

Parent FAQs

The TSIA2 determines whether a student is ready for college-level coursework. It is used for Dual Credit eligibility, college placement, and CCMR college readiness.
Yes, students need TSIA2 scores if they plan to take Dual Credit courses or need a college-readiness indicator for CCMR. Some campuses also give the test grade-wide to help plan academic supports.
No. TSIA2 testing at RISD campuses is free for students.

Students can:

  • Retest as many times as needed
  • Participate in targeted intervention or bootcamps
  • Retake the test when the campus schedules additional sessions.

RISD supports students in meeting college readiness before graduation.

The test is untimed, but most students finish in:

  • 1–2 hours for Reading/Writing (ELAR)
  • 1–1.5 hours for Math
  • 45 minutes for the Essay (if assigned)
Retesting is based on campus scheduling, but students may retest at any time a session is offered. RISD encourages students to complete practice or targeted support before retesting.
Only the built-in digital calculator may be used on approved problems. Personal calculators are not allowed.
No, students are not allowed to use a dictionary during the TSIA2.
