RISD was closed due to inclement weather from January 26 through January 29, 2026.
To address the missed instructional time the make-up plan is as follows:
- The district will use built-in instructional minutes to cover January 26 and 27, so April 3 and April 6 will remain student and staff holidays, as included in this year’s academic calendar.
- A waiver has been submitted to TEA(Texas Education Agency) for January 28 and 29.
- Additionally, the final elementary Early Release Day of the school year – April 9 – will be removed to help maximize instructional minutes.
Staff:
District staff will work with their supervisors to document appropriate non-duty time for January 26–29. Additional guidance will be provided by the Human Resources Department.
