3 RISD Schools recognized for the 2025–2026 Whole Child Campus Award

Richardson ISD Whole Child Campus Award

We are proud to announce that Prestonwood, Northwood Hills, and Bowie Elementary have been recognized by the Richardson ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) with the Whole Child Campus Award — an honor given to elementary campuses that demonstrate outstanding commitment to supporting the full wellness of their students, staff, and families.

What does it mean to be a Whole Child Campus?

The Whole Child Campus Award celebrates schools that weave wellness into the fabric of the school day. To earn this recognition, our campus met criteria across five key areas:

Nutrition Education – Displaying district wellness messaging in our cafeteria, protecting student dignity during mealtime, ensuring 10 minutes for breakfast and 20 minutes for lunch, and offering healthier alternatives for class celebrations and rewards.

Physical Activity – Meeting 135 minutes of weekly TEKS-based physical education, offering daily recess for grades K–6, and providing students with opportunities for movement through brain breaks, clubs, and open gym.

Wellness Initiatives – Participating in district programs like the 21-Day Snack Challenge, RISD Rides, Take 9, and PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month, plus campus favorites like Marathon Kids, Red Ribbon Week, and the American Heart Challenge.

Mental Health & Kindness – Promoting Live Wise, Live Healthy resources, kindness challenges, anti-bullying awareness, and programs like “To Be Like Me” that build empathy and belonging.

Family, Community & Staff Wellness –  Partnering with community organizations, hosting family wellness events, engaging our PTA Healthy Lifestyles Chair, and supporting our staff through their own wellness challenges and activities.

A Team Effort

This award belongs to every teacher who led a brain break, every PE coach who inspired movement, every counselor who championed mental health, every cafeteria team member who served our students with care, and every family who partnered with us along the way. Thank you for showing up for our kids — mind, body, and spirit.
