Two Richardson ISD LITEs have received a Laura Bush Foundation Grant that can be used to extend, update, and diversify their campus libraries.
Liberty Junior High School’s Taressa Anderson and RISD Academy’s Caroline Ritzer will both receive $5,000 to use to continue their dedicated work of building a culture of reading in RISD.
“Studies show that a well-managed and fully stocked library helps increase student achievement,” RISD Director of Library and Information Technology Alejandra Isais said. “Mrs. Ritzer and Mrs. Anderson have done a wonderful job creating a culture of reading on their campuses centered on student interest and need. This grant will allow these LITEs to provide new books and better curate their libraries so students can continue to connect, learn, grow and succeed.”
The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries provides funds to the nation’s neediest schools with the goal of encouraging students to develop a love of reading and learning. This year, the Foundation awarded $1.5 million to 300 schools from 44 states.
“I am thrilled that children from 300 schools will soon have access to an updated library collection,” Mrs. Laura Bush said in a press release. “Students across the country turn to books to discover the world around them, and we know that opening a new book opens the door to new opportunities and learning.”
Congratulations Taressa and Caroline! #RISDGreatness
