2022 School Accountability Ratings

For the first time since 2018-19, Texas districts and schools have been assigned ratings under the state accountability system. RISD as a district received a rating of B, and two-thirds of RISD campuses received a rating of A or B.

“We are very encouraged by the academic progress and improvement of our students,” said RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum.  “As we shared in June, the hard work and resilience of our teachers and students were reflected in much-improved state scores, and these school ratings are primarily of reflection of that. We absolutely must continue to focus on improvement for every child, every day, especially in closing performance gaps among different students groups, but overall, we’re heading into 2022-23 with positive momentum.”

Ratings for elementary and junior high schools are based on performance on the standardized state assessment (the STAAR – State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness), which became available in early summer. For the 2022 accountability year, a pandemic-era law (SB 1365) is giving some campuses another year of recovery before receiving a rating.  Campuses receiving an overall rating below 70 will receive a Not Rated designation, while other campuses are rated either A, B, or C.
