Lone Star Leadership Academy

lone star ledership academy

Thirteen RISD students participated in the Education in Action Lone Star Leadership Academy over the summer: Leander Detzel, River Garcia, Nicholas Harvey, and Isaac Le of MST; Nathan Pass and Jake Ringnald of Parkhill Junior High; Clara Neill of Pearce; Tucker Clifton, Ayelet Reynolds, Preston Tom, and George Wimberly of Prestonwood Elementary; Wesley Cantrell of North Junior High; and Cameron Mehta of Westwood Math, Science, Leadership Magnet.

An educator nominated each of these young leaders to participate based on demonstrated leadership ability, academic success, and involvement in school and community activities.

During the weeklong, overnight camps, these students developed leadership skills while learning about Texas. Participants experienced what they are learning in school through visits to notable and historically significant Texas sites. Some of the sites include the Fort Worth Stockyards; the Perot Museum and 6th Floor Museum in Dallas; the Texas Capitol and Texas Supreme Court in Austin; the Alamo in San Antonio; NASA in Houston; the San Jacinto battleground monument; and a boat tour of Galveston Bay with a marine biologist.

Congratulations to these students for their pursuit of leadership and learning. #RISDBelieves
