October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and a time to recognize the amazing talents of all RISD students with dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring in the brain that impacts the ability to read and spell. Because nearly 1 in 5 people has dyslexia, it is important to recognize the signs early in order to provide the necessary remediation. It’s also important to understand this learning difference and encourage each child’s individual strengths.

RISD dyslexia teachers provide daily, explicit intervention to nearly 2,900 students from kindergarten through high school while also spotlighting their unique gifts. #RISDBelieves #RISDWeAreOne
