From semiconductor manufacturing to drone delivery, RISD high school students explored career possibilities firsthand during Richardson Industry Week. By partnering with local businesses and the City of Richardson, students connected their classroom learning to real-life application and the technology and industries shaping the local community. They were able to make connections and catch a glimpse of some of the career paths available after graduation.
City of Richardson
Berkner High School students visited the City of Richardson Service Center to explore careers within the Facilities & Fleet and Public Services departments for a behind-the-scenes look at what keeps the city running.
Students toured the facility, connected with industry professionals, and learned about career pathways ranging from fleet and facilities maintenance and skilled trades to water and wastewater operations, public works and civil engineering.
Texas Instruments
Students from Pearce High School visited Texas Instruments’ RFAB campus in Richardson for a firsthand look at the technology, equipment and people behind modern semiconductor manufacturing. Beyond the calculators many people associate with TI, students explored how semiconductor technology powers products and supports industries around the world, offering a glimpse into the engineering and innovation behind everyday life.
Zipline Drone Delivery
Berkner High School students also visited Zipline’s Richardson Operations Hub, where they went behind the scenes to learn how autonomous drone delivery technology is maintained and operated. For students studying unmanned aerial vehicles and other CTE pathways, the experience provided a real-world connection between what they are learning in the classroom and careers involving aviation, robotics, engineering, maintenance, logistics, and emerging technology.
Halff Associates
Students from Richardson High School’s architecture program visited Halff Associates, a multidisciplinary engineering, architecture and consulting firm. Careers at the firm span several primary technical and corporate tracks such as architecture and design, engineering, environmental, construction and business support roles. During the trip, students toured the office and connected with industry professionals, asking questions about their work and exploring potential career trajectories.
Through experiences like Industry Week and ongoing partnerships with local businesses, RISD Career & Technical Education (CTE) students are able to see what their future might hold. By meeting professionals, exploring workplaces, and seeing their classroom learning applied in real-world settings, students gain a clearer picture of what comes next and the possibilities waiting for them right here in their community.
