RHS Esports Team Wins National Championship

RHS Computer Science Team

The Richardson High School Nuclear Eagles were recognized at the Sept. 20 board meeting for winning the 2021 Walt Disney World EGF High School national championship in Overwatch.

The RHS Esports program began in spring 2018, and the current Nuclear Eagles have been competing together for three years in various leagues and have won championships at the state and national level. Most of the team had never met before the team was formed.

“What set them apart is their relentless practice and dedication to the game, along with an emphasis on teamwork to push each other to improve,” according to RHS computer science teacher Henry Vo. “Students on the team are in various magnets: computer science, science, law to name a few; some of them are athletes: tennis, football; and one team member is currently ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2022. There’s no requirement to compete nor does being in a specific magnet allow them more time to practice and play. This is great team. Last year really showed us how well they worked together. We’re hoping to duplicate the success this season.”
