RISD Band Staff hosts Pop-up Trade Show with Conn Selmer

Students testing saxophones in BHS band hall

RISD Secondary band staff were treated to an incredible day of learning on Monday, Feb. 16, in the Berkner High School band hall. Conn Selmer, a leading instrument manufacturer in the US, provided a pop-up trade show for RISD band staff.  The morning was divided into an information session to learn more about instrument manufacturing, followed by a one hour opportunity for staff to play different instruments, while asking questions of the artists who design these instruments.

The band staff later brought in private lesson staff and trusted consultants to experience the event, providing valuable feedback to RISD staff as they look towards future inventory purchases.  The morning of learning concluded with parents and students coming to try instruments, ask questions, and learn more about options for step-up instruments.

Conn Selmer hosted an evening meet and greet to learn more about what teachers’ needs are in RISD.  At the end of the night, they raffled off Starbucks gift cards, a $1000 instrument supplies basket (Lauren Boltman, PHJH), and the grand prize and a $10,000 professional model tenor saxophone (Aaron Singleton, LHHS).

Thank you Conn Selmer for investing in music education and helping provide valuable information to our students, parents, and staff.
