Middle School/Junior High Schedule Change Information
Additional schedule format changes for the 2026-2027 school year include:
- Moving from 90 min. block/every other day to 45 min. Class periods every day
- Addition of 10 minutes to the school day to accommodate for Middle School construction, CTE/Advisory and instructional minute needs
- Daily Advisory period
- 6th Grade Reading/Language Arts (RLA) will utilize a double block focused on literacy foundations and accelerated reading. Total instructional time is aligned with current elementary and middle school standards.
- Additional schedule blocking will be implemented for students identified as needing additional intervention for RLA and/or Math.
- Students could add another elective period depending on their STAAR performance
- The district STRONGLY recommends that all Middle School students leave with TWO High School credits to increase space in their HS schedule for additional electives. This could include earning HS credits in the following areas:
- Foreign Language
- Health
- CTE courses
- Algebra 1
- Summer Enrichment Opportunities
Additional Program Implications
Fine Arts
- Increase in program growth at the pivotal entry point
- Daily reinforcement and development of fine motor skills
- Increased retention of material
- Higher success rate of their craft when they practice more frequently
- Rapid feedback loops
- Retention and muscle memory
Athletics
- Longer days, while in season, for athletes & staff
- Construction impacts six campuses
- Transportation/Shuttle needs
Career Technology Education
- Increase enrollment
- New course pathways available
- Expanded access to CTE foundations: Every 7th and 8th-grade student is eligible to enroll in a Principles course.
- Allows more time to explore CTE options.
