Storm Update Feb. 19

Dear RISD Families,

I hope this finds you safe and doing well as we approach the close of this week.

Our RISD facilities services team continues to assess and evaluate all RISD buildings for potential damage. Once this assessment is complete, we will determine if there are issues that would impact a return to school or work in specific buildings, and communicate any issues to you. We want to make and communicate our full determination as soon as possible this weekend.

As we’ve done all week, we’ll make decisions based on what is best for the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

I want to thank our facilities, maintenance and operations staff, who have worked all week to keep RISD buildings as safe and secure as possible during this unprecedented winter storm. I truly appreciate their professionalism and commitment to RISD.

I know how hard this week has been and continues to be. Many RISD families have struggled with power outages, frozen pipes, water damage, access to food, and other hardships. We will get through these issues, all while continuing to support our students, staff, and families in the coming days ahead.

Continue to check RISD.org and the district’s social media channels for additional information as we work through the weekend to assess back-to-school plans for next week.

Please have patience and take care today. We send positive thoughts to those with storm-related damage, as well as those who are still dealing with COVID concerns.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jeannie Stone
Superintendent
