Summer Learning
There are numerous opportunities for RISD students to continue learning over the summer months. The mission of RISD summer school programming is to serve our students and the community through engaging experiences that inspire and enrich the whole child. Summer Enrichment
RISD’s advanced learning services office has compiled a variety of suggestions for RISD parents and students to extend their learning over the summer. Please see more information here.

Summer Counseling Support
Accessible counseling is available to RISD students through Telehealth appointments via TCHATT as well as MetroCare; students can also contact summer school counselors for counseling resources

Summer Reading
The RISD Library Information Technology Educator team has recommended summer reading guidelines for students:

In addition, information about the City of Richardson Library’s Summer Reading Club can be found here and the city has a list of 1,000 books to read before kindergarten.

Summer Child Care & Camp
The RISD summer 2025 xPlore program will be offered at Richland Elementary on Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 2 through Aug. 1. Please click here for more about the summer xPlore program.

Summer Meal Resources
Richardson ISD will offer summer meals from May 29 – Aug. 1 at various locations around the district. See dates, times and locations here. (en espanol)

Please note that RISD summer meals must be eaten at the campus and cannot be taken to go. 

In addition, the Network of Community Ministries mobile food pantry will stop at different places around RISD over the summer months.

Summer RISD Operating Hours
In June & July, office hours for most RISD central departments and programs are Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central buildings are not open to visitors on June 6, 13, 19-20, and July 11, 18, and 25.

Most RISD schools and many district administrative offices will be closed from June 19 through Friday, July 4. Administrative offices will reopen on Monday, July 7. 

Summer program sites will continue to operate on the schedule published for each location. District and school information, including 2025-26 school year enrollment and back-to-school resources, is available by visiting www.risd.org.

The first day of the 2025-26 school year is Tuesday, Aug. 12.
