Click here to watch the Sept. 30 Superintendent’s update. Highlights include:
- RISD’s accelerated learning plan to help fill pandemic-related student learning gaps is being implemented with the help of federal ESSER funds, which were provided to school districts for that purpose.
- The district has hired more educators and interventionists, purchased additional classroom materials and resources such as phonics kits, and is providing professional learning opportunities for staff.
- The accelerated learning effort includes supporting the whole child to ensure they are ready to learn, including social and emotional wellness, especially for students re-entering in-person learning after more than a year of learning virtually.
- The plan includes instruction that supports acceleration and enrichment for every RISD student.
- RISD District 5 trustee Karen Clardy submitted her resignation from the RISD board of trustees. We thank her for her service on the board, her 25 years of service at Lake Highlands High School, and wish her the very best moving forward.
- RISD trustees are expected to formally consider Clardy’s resignation at an upcoming board meeting and also may discuss next steps related to the vacancy created by Ms. Clardy’s resignation from her seat in single-member district 5 and as board president. Single-member district 5 is up for election in May 2022.
- RISD will be livestreaming the next regular monthly board meeting on Monday, Oct. 4, through the district website at www.risd.org.
- This Saturday is National Custodian Appreciation Day, and we are so grateful for the nearly 400 custodians who keep our campus and district buildings clean and safe. Please take a moment next week to celebrate and thank these key employees who contribute to a successful learning environment for kids.
- RISD is observing National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens and RISD students and staff whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
- Visit the district website to secure your ticket to Hispanic Heritage Month and learn about the activities happening across the district.
