RISD Parents & Staff,

As you are likely aware, the City of Richardson has not yet lifted the Boil Water Notice in effect for parts of the City; however, because the district has had time to prepare, RISD schools will be OPEN on Friday, Nov. 8 on a normal schedule.

District staff are utilizing Thursday to prepare campuses for school on Friday, and we are very confident that teaching and learning can safely occur Friday at the impacted campuses with the following adjustments:

  • Water fountains and bottle refill stations have been covered and may not be used Friday.
  • RISD has stocked bottled water at schools for every student and staff member. Parents are welcome to send their child to school with any additional bottled water if you choose.
  • Cafeteria staff will be serving ‘cold’ meals for breakfast and lunch on Friday that do not require water in kitchens to prepare, rinse, or clean up. Milk and other non-tap water drinks will remain available for students at breakfast and lunch. As always, parents are welcome to send their child to school with lunch and/or drink items from home (reminder –  please no nuts or other foods that could trigger a food allergy reaction).
  • Hand sanitizer will be available outside restrooms and around the school.
  • Per the City’s guidance, restroom tap water is safe to use to wash hands when combined with soap and washed vigorously for 20 seconds. Custodial staff will closely monitor restrooms to ensure that restroom soap dispensers are functioning and refilled as needed throughout the day. Hand sanitizer will be available outside restrooms.

RISD will remain in close contact with City staff, and we currently do not anticipate any water safety issues next week. For the latest information and guidance from the City of Richardson, please monitor www.cor.net/boilwaternotice.

We look forward to returning to teaching and learning on Friday and thank you for your patience and flexibility during this unexpected situation.

RISD Parents and Staff,

As you may be aware, the City of Richardson has issued a Boil Water notice for residents and entities in parts of the city. Due to the order, the lack of drinkable water for students and staff, and other safety and sanitary reasons, the following RISD schools will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 7:

Arapaho Classical Magnet
Dover ES
Heights ES
Richardson West JH
Richardson HS

RISD will remain in close contact with the City of Richardson, and will make a determination on Thursday about the status of school on Friday at these campuses.

RISD staff assigned to these schools: Tomorrow will not be a work day and you will not come to work. More information will be available soon about the impact on contract days and next steps for staff.
