Click here to watch the Oct. 15 Superintendent’s update. Highlights include:
- RISD has committed resources and supports to ensure all students receive a literacy rich foundation and students develop a lifelong love of reading.
- All kindergarten and first grade teachers are going through the Texas Teacher Reading Academy this year focused on the science of teaching reading, including a strong focus on phonics.
- Take a look inside one elementary campus with a reading specialist who highlights some of the strategies used to foster literacy.
- RISD’s reported positive COVID cases continue to decline, as the district’s mitigation protocols are effectively keeping the trend going downward; RISD is preparing to have in-district vaccine opportunities set up once the vaccine is available for children aged 5 to 11 for those families who choose that option.
- The metrics in the draft framework that RISD is developing to determine when it may be safe to adjust COVID-mitigation protocols are encouraging and moving in the right direction. Click here to see the updated draft of that framework and metrics.
- October is Principal Appreciation Month. Please thank and celebrate our campus leaders who devote so much of themselves to their students, teachers, and staff. Follow RISD social media accounts as we celebrate the 55 dedicated educators leading our campuses all month long.
